Project "Reclaim That Space" phase Two

Well, over the weekend Maddy got her bedroom pretty well cleaned up, and yesterday I took some pictures of the room ~POST clean up, but BEFORE the redo.  So thought you might like to see what it looks like.

Keep a couple of things in mind, this room was originally my studio, two room moves back!! Sounds crazy, I know, but the people in this house just can't decide which rooms they'd like to live in!!! And therefore I painted it like 10-12yrs. ago.  I painted it the yellow and other crazy colors for a few reasons... The first being that the kids had made some cool art at school and I wanted a place to hang it that it matched.  The second reason has a bit of a strange psychoanalytical theme to it.  It had been suggested to me that I had painted the rest of the house  with dark colors and maybe it was becuz I was a bit depressed or going through a sad time in my life. Which I was, my mother had died just recently before we moved into this house.  I was pretty sure my choice of colors had little to do with this, but thought maybe I should give some bright, fun, cheery, color a try. I also had a friend who had said to me when I chose most of the colors for the house "It's only paint, if you hate it, you can change it!!!"  When I moved the studio out so Maddy could move her bedroom into this space, we painted one of the walls bright pink and another medium pink. She liked the fun crazy colors. So, this is how the colors of this room were chosen!!! Turns out 10+ years later, I'm no longer sad {well 99.9% of the time, I'm not heartless, I do miss my mother occasionally}  I still LOVE dark colors!  AND I still DON'T like bright, cheery colors!!! Anyway... moving on.

Here are some pics of the room

The filing cabinet is going in another room, in the basement, where we keep all the important documents and such.  It just ended up there temporarily, while I was working on the studio. She has already removed a lot of the art from the walls.
The closet doors will honestly make me sad to paint, only becuz the kids painted most of the stuff on them.  But I'll take pics for my scrapbooks!!
Maddy also plans to take the short dresser with her to he new apt.  We will most likely paint it and replace the knobs, a project for later this summer!!
Stair railing...
Can I just say how incredibly UGLY this carpet is!! I HATE it, I want to rip it out and paint the wooden floor, just like in the studio.  BUT Ryan says the carpet NEEDS to stay, becuz they intend to use this room when they record music.  This is the room the drum kit would be put in. The carpet will be useful in keeping the echo in check, I guess.  I don't really care, it's still UGLY as HELL.  Maybe if I buy a big area rug, I can cover most of it...

This is the small library area.  Not really big enough for much of anything. It used to house mostly the kids books, but now it's mostly a mess of random books and photo albums and such.  This area will be getting cleaned up some. Not completely sure what will be going on here just yet.  Would like to buy new bookshelves that are black, but these ones still work, so it seems like such a waste.
The night stand, which is actually empty.  It came from Tallon's room and I think I'm going to paint it black and buy a new handle and knobs for it.
There you have it. Phase Two has begun.  I started painting the railings already. Maddy has a horse show on Saturday, so I am hoping to start painting on Sunday. Fingers crossed!!!
