Since the last blog I worked really hard on getting packed and ready for our families annual trip to Otsego Club in Gaylord, MI. It is a dirt bike racing event, they actually call it a Grand Prix. It takes place on the ski hills and through the woods of the resort. This is the 3rd year they have done the event. My husband and son went the first year, Steve, {friend of the kids and basically an adopted son}Maddy and I joined the second year{after a Saturday volleyball tourney}and this year Maddy wasn't able to join us :( we were all bummed, but she had a huge exam to study for and the WiFi at the resort sucks, making it impossible to study there. There was so much to do to get ready for this 2.5 day trip. Ryan and Tallon worked on bikes and packing bike trailer. Ryan had to borrow Steve's bike because there was no time to fix his own before the trip. Ryan hates to borrow, but this event is really something they look forward to ALL year.
So I spent some time last week creating lists. Several lists!! Things to do list, shopping lists, a menu of things to pack and prepare that the Gluten Free family could eat. We needed high energy, healthy, quick options. Every morning the resort provided a huge breakfast, with lots of healthy options. Breakfast handled! That just left lunches and Suppers! And I knew it would be cold up there. So I prepared a vegetable turkey soup, froze it in zip lock baggies and packed the crockpot. It was warm and yummy!! We packed the grill, some chicken breast, potatoes, bratts, and lots of veggies and fruits. And of course quick, snack items like granola bars, rice cakes, Nutella, peanut butter, lunch meats, cheese, yogurt, and muscle milk. We looked like we were moving in for the week, not just the weekend!!
My suitcase, Ryan's suitcase, extra shoes, camera case, purse, coolers, and misc. stuff like plates, napkins. Some extra riding gear for Ryan. The rest of the stuff is already in bike trailer and back of truck! Why didn't I take pics of that?????
One list!
Veggie Soup! Made a bit too much!!!
Mountain of Turkey for the soup!!
Fellow Motocrosser's headed to Otsego Club!!
The view was outstanding!
The trees were so pretty up North
And finally we arrive at our destinationAnd to our room!
SATURDAY MORNING
It was a freezing 34 degrees when we woke up at 6am. It was cloudy, snowed a bit and then kinda spit rain for a bit! Awesome weather, I HATE the cold!! Glad I packed for it his year. Ryan's first race was 9am. So we were off bright and early. Breakfast, sign up and off to the pits to get ready.
Race sign up:
Our pits...
Steve's bike didn't have #'s on it yet{he's only ridden it three times, and doesn't race. It's been in our garage all summer-LOL!} Ryan forgot to stop and buy more #'s on our way up, so he used the 5's he had in the trailer and since Maddy's volleyball # is 5 it was fitting to run 5 in honor of her not being there this year! Ryan usually runs the #553, and his bike is a Honda{red} so hardly anyone even knew who he was.
Tallon, and Ryan butt

I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to walk down with Ryan and Steve, but I about died trying to get back up! This hill is so much steeper than it looks! Behind the trees to the right it goes straight up! I was actually stupid enough to make this trip twice Saturday!!!
This is Tallons class Open C. He got 3rd! WoooHooo!!! He is somewhere over to the right side??? Tallon finished 3rd and 5th in his classes today{it's Tallon's first year of real racing}so he did great!!!
Hot, steamy turkey veggie soup for lunch, in the hotel room.
Out on the patio... Muscle Milk break
Ryan grabbing some turkey soup for lunch.
This is our view from our front patio, the cars parked below{downhill} and behind the row of trees are the bike pits. Great not to have to walk 5 miles to get to pits, but still uphill back to the room!!!
Steve
and Tallon.
Ryan and I grilled chicken breast for supper, but Tallon decided he was happy, he had done what he came to do, he was on vacation now! So they had All-You-Can-Eat ribs and a few beverages!!! We all hung out at the bar with some racing friends for a while, listened to the band for a bit, and then it was off to bed!!!
SUNDAY:
We slept in until 7am today. Ryan decided NOT to race his morning class today cuz it was freezing cold this morning. Yesterday Ryan finished 3rd in both his classes. There were multiple screw ups with scoring, it was a nightmare. And a retired pro, Ryan Hughes raced in both Ryans classes, so normally he would've taken 2nd. I don't really count Ryan Hughes as the class winner, since in my opinion he has no business taking money, or points in these classes. He is factory sponsored, was paid to be at this event by Yamaha, and is riding a factory bike. Ride with them fine, take money, NOT fine! Anyway enough of that rant!
It was cold but at least it was sunny this morning!
We woke up to frost on everything.
I watched most of the racing today from the bottom of the hill at, The Cabin, as it's called. It's a cute little building with a stream and little bridges. You take a shuttle down and back, well unless you had a pit vehicle of some type. There is a winding, muddy, narrow, dirt road to it and it's only a mile{each direction}, but it's very steep! My husband peddle biked down and back, but he's crazy {said he was going like 40mphs down the hill}yeah crazy!!! Last year they had the ski lifts running and you could ride those back and forth and watch the races from over top. ~I did NOT ride it, those things freak me out!!! It was hard to see most of the racing, as it was out in the woods, but at the cabin you got a cool view that you couldn't see from up top at the Club House.
The Cabin
The race track goes right over the little creek.
It's very pretty and peaceful down here!
Hmmm... and I took no track or race pics with my iPhone from down here! I took a lot of pics with my good camera and my little digital, maybe if I can figure it out I will download more.
Ryan ended up winning his class this afternoon
Big Wood!
That's what we call the first place trophy's! They are pretty cool looking and yes, made from a big piece of wood. The race info is burned into the wood. Now we have 3 at our house!! Yah!
Tallon and Steve left after we ate again and packed up the trucks. Ryan and I stuck around to watch the big Pro-Am money moto. I was not feeling great by Sunday, and didn't enjoy the day as much as I could have. And I would've taken more pics if I had been feeling better, but I took a ton last year, so it's all good.
Here are a few misc. pics...
Our front patio.
Our hotel ~the Evergreen
backside of the lodge, overlooking track
very cool Redbull tents. Race announcer hung out here, most of the time. Good place to be Saturday when it got rainy and windy.
Sunset Sunday evening...
Getting gas on the way home, YIKES!!
After re-reading this blog, I think it's kinda boring, sorry this is all I've got right now! Might be the pounding in my skull or the cold meds, but it's the best I can do. for today!!! And I will definitely be adding more of the actual race pics too!!
OH OH!!! And Maddy stayed home and watched the dogs for us, and when we got home she had bought us each a new sweatshirt, pretty cool!!
